Until April 2016 the accounts for iSightCornwall - the only local charity in Cornwall dedicated to supporting the visually impaired - were dealt with in-house. When their finance officer retired, Chief Executive Terri Rosnau-Ward decided to outsource.
Terri admits it was a big step and was concerned that bringing in an outside company would mean losing the personal touch. Following an invitation to tender process, the contract was awarded to Lang Bennetts.
“I’ve known Jonathan Mashen by reputation for years so I knew his firm would be a safe and professional pair of hands,” said Terri. “Whilst their application ticked all our boxes, the service they provide has outshone all expectations.
“Our dedicated account manager Paul Burrows always fills us with confidence. He’s innovative and open to new ideas and, if he isn’t available, we know there’s always someone on the Lang Bennetts’ team who fully understands our accounts who can take over until his return.
“The way Paul reports to us is way ahead of anything we have known before. The accounts are presented in a way we all understand - with lots of comparisons to help us make decisions and address issues more quickly and efficiently.
“Our biggest worry about outsourcing was losing the closeness that having an in-house finance officer brings but we’ve already developed such a strong working relationship with Paul and the Lang Bennetts’ team that they’ve become part of the iSightCornwall family.
“Although iSightCornwall has been around for 160 years, it sometimes feels like we’re the county’s best kept secret. What we’re striving for is to be recognised as a centre of resource and excellence and for businesses to want to be a part of the charity. Working with Lang Bennetts will hopefully help us in our efforts to achieve this.
“I would strongly recommend Lang Bennetts. Working with them is a very positive experience that has added a new level of professionalism to our accounting - it’s just a smarter way of doing the finances.”
