Successful Dragons’ Den TV Appearance for Lang Bennetts Client
Date: 14th November 2006
Lang Bennetts’ client Rob Kinna appeared recently on popular BBC 2 series, Dragons’ Den.
Rob was seeking investment to take his product, aimed primarily at the automotive industry, to market.
He gained the investment required and is now selling his product through his website and seeking additional outlets to reach the wider market.
The product
Known as Bak-Jak®, his unique product provides support for people working in a bent-over position such as car mechanics working on vehicle engines. The product is designed to leave the user with both hands free to do their work, whilst supporting their body weight and reducing any discomfort, particularly in the back. It addresses a notorious problem in the motor repair industry.
The plan
Rob approached Lang Bennetts with an outline business plan, but required assistance in relation to the financial aspects of it. Using Rob’s initial figures, and through discussions with the client, a full set of financial projections was prepared, forming an integral part of a strong business plan. Rob was also given some coaching as to potential questions which might be raised by the business plan so that he was prepared. Difficult questions are something Dragons’ Den is renowned for!
The pitch
Rob’s approach and unique product gained him the required investment from two multi-millionaire investors, Richard Farleigh and Duncan Bannatyne. His pitch was held by the producers of the show to be a prime example of a good presentation and was saved for a special show at the end of the series.
How Lang Bennetts can help you
Rob said ‘By having confidence in the figures, I was able to pitch my product to a panel of potential investors, knowing that I would be able to answer their questions confidently’.
